About Me

Hi — I’m Callum, the developer behind Skybound Studios.

I’m a UK-based university student working alongside freelance scenery development and collaborative X-Plane projects.

Aviation and flight simulation have been a huge part of my life for roughly the last decade. Over time, that interest gradually evolved from simply flying aircraft into exploring scenery development, simulator systems, and the tools behind X-Plane itself.

Early on, I began experimenting with Plane Maker, WED, and scenery source files while learning more about X-Plane’s SDK and workflow. Eventually this led into creating my own airports and environment projects, with a strong focus on realism, atmosphere, optimisation, and environmental cohesion.

I also previously undertook PPL (Private Pilot Licence) training, which helped strengthen my appreciation for real-world aviation environments and airport operations.

Development Journey

After spending several years learning scenery development independently, I later joined Boundless Simulations as a freelance developer, contributing to multiple commercial scenery projects and expanding my experience within professional X-Plane development.

My work primarily focused on airport environments, ground textures, layout development, vegetation, optimisation, and overall scene cohesion.

Following a step back from scenery development for a period of time, I eventually returned with a renewed focus on building a more consistent and long-term identity through Skybound Studios.

Philosophy

One of the core ideas behind Skybound Studios is that good scenery should feel cohesive rather than simply detailed.

Every project aims to balance realism, atmosphere, usability, optimisation, and immersion while remaining enjoyable to operate within over long-term use.
