The Road Ahead for Skybound Studios

Over the past year, Skybound Studios has grown from an idea into an active scenery development studio, with released products, ongoing airport development and exciting new collaborative opportunities within the flight simulation community.

Following the recent release of Caernarfon Airport, I wanted to take a moment to share what Skybound Studios is currently working on, what is planned for the future, and where I hope to take the studio over the coming months and years.

Current Development

Inverness Airport (EGPE) – Version 2

Inverness remains one of Skybound’s flagship projects and continues to receive ongoing improvements.

Current development focuses on improving environmental detail, vegetation placement, fencing, and overall X-Plane 12 integration. Rather than completely rebuilding the airport, the objective is to continue refining and modernising the existing scenery to take better advantage of the XP12 platform.

Turweston Aerodrome (EGBT)

Turweston is a project that originally began several years ago and has recently returned to active development.

Much of the foundational work is already complete, including the primary airport buildings and layout. Remaining development is focused on completing additional structures, environmental detailing, vegetation, ground work and final polish before release.

Turweston represents an exciting opportunity to bring a unique UK general aviation airfield to X-Plane 12.

New Opportunities

Barelli MSFS Conversions

One of the most exciting recent developments has been the beginning of a collaboration with Barelli MSFS Addon.

The first planned project under this arrangement is expected to be Ancona Airport, bringing a Microsoft Flight Simulator scenery into X-Plane 12 through a dedicated adaptation process.

If successful, this partnership could pave the way for additional conversions in the future, helping bring more high-quality airports to the X-Plane ecosystem.

Third-Party Development & Collaboration

Alongside Skybound’s own releases, I continue to undertake selected freelance and collaborative development work for other studios and developers.

These projects range from airport development and XP12 integration to scenery optimisation, environment creation and technical support work.

While not every project will be publicly announced, they play an important role in expanding the studio’s capabilities and helping fund future Skybound releases.

Projects Under Evaluation

Not every project immediately enters development.

Skybound is currently reviewing several potential opportunities, including airport acquisitions, collaborative projects and future scenery partnerships.

The goal is always to focus on projects that:

  • Fill gaps within the X-Plane 12 market.
  • Offer something unique to the community.
  • Maintain a realistic balance between quality and development time.
  • Provide long-term value for both users and the studio.

Long-Term Goals

Skybound Studios is still in its early stages, but the long-term vision is becoming increasingly clear.

Key goals include:

  • Expanding the catalogue of high-quality X-Plane 12 airports.
  • Developing stronger relationships with both X-Plane and MSFS developers.
  • Building a small but reliable network of artists and contributors.
  • Improving internal development workflows and tools.
  • Continuing to support and improve existing products after release.
  • Establishing Skybound as a recognised name within the flight simulation community.

Thank You

Every purchase, download, screenshot and message of support helps make these projects possible.

There is plenty more to come, and I’m looking forward to sharing future progress as development continues.

Thank you for following the journey.
